For most people, our houses are our sanctuaries. We put a lot of time and effort into maintaining our houses, but we often forget one of the most important aspects – the roof. That is, until that first leak gives us a rude awakening. You can save yourself a lot of grief by regularly checking your roof to make sure it is still in good condition – or better yet, contact Roof Experts for a free inspection and free consulation! It is especially important to check your roof after adverse weather conditions, such as a strong windstorm or heavy rain. By regularly checking and maintaining your roof, you can extend the life of your roof and your entire house. If you find that you need to make repairs on your roof, don’t get too stressed. Repairing a roof does not have to be an all-day project as long as you plan ahead and do all of your shopping in one trip so that you’re ready for the repairs and don’t have to spend the day running back and forth to the store (unless you’re using a professional service, such as Dallas Roofing). Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need for roof repairs.

Materials Needed

To repair your roof, you will most likely need some replacement tiles. You may have a few of these left over from the last time the roof was completely resurfaced. If not, you’ll have to match the shingles (or tiles) on your roof to those in the store. Depending on the damage done, you may also need roofing paper (sometimes known as felt paper). The new shingles will need to be attached, so you will need some roofing nails. You will also need either a hammer or a nail gun. You may find that you have to take off a few shingles, which will require a hammer with a claw. Finally, if any of your metal flashing is damaged (used to prevent pooling water from rotting your roof), you will need to purchase more metal flashing for the ridges and valleys of your roof or drip edge flashing for the edges of your roof. Here is an easy list of materials for you to keep in mind when repairing your roof:

Roofing Paper (also known as felt paper)

Drip Edge Flashing (if the edges of your roof have been damaged)

Metal Flashing (if the ridges or valleys of your house have been damaged)

Roofing Nails

Hammer with Claw

Nail Gun (optional but time-saving!)

Outer Layer (shingles, ceramic tiles, clay tiles, or other top layers)

With the proper tools and materials, you’ll be well on your way to repairing your roof. Keep in mind that if you’ve lost shingles or tiles you’ll want to verify that the roof in those areas is still intact and has not been compromised. It is better if you can notice when tiles are becoming loose so that you can replace those tiles or shingles before the roof is exposed in that area. By regularly checking your roof and maintaining it as necessary, you will extend the life of your roof and your house. Additionally, when you repair your own roof you’ll end up with extra tiles or shingles that you can save for the next time you need to make a minor repair. You’ll also rest well knowing that the roof over your head is a solid and stable one that you personally have checked for damage.

If the job requires professional help, look no further than Dallas Roofing for all your roofing needs – call Roof Experts at (972) 824-9208 today and receive a free inspection and free roofing consultation!

P90X: Should College Students Try It?

Is P90X Right for College Students?

Typically, college students have a difficult time adjusting to their newfound freedom. Eating right and working out can easily become habits that are forgotten about, leading to laziness and poor eating habits. P90X is a great program, especially for college students seeking a disciplined workout program and eating plan. This article will introduce you to the P90X program, as well as discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the P90X program.

The P90X Program

P90X is a dynamic fitness program that can transform your body within 90 days. The program contains a 3-phase nutrition plan, fitness guide, and DVDs that you can actually train along with. Tony Horton acts as your own personal fitness guru as he takes you through intense workouts meant to help you break a sweat. In just 90 days, the P90X fitness program can whip you into shape with its comprehensive information and motivational workouts.

P90X Advantages for College Students

The reason this program can be highly advantageous for college students, is due to its motivational workouts and educational nutritional guide. Often, college students get all the knowledge they need for a future career, yet fail to get the knowledge they need for nutritional health. Somehow, the simple habit of staying in shape can be easily lost with pressures of school, activities, and work. The workout DVDs are what make the P90X a truly revolutionary way of working out for college students.

For busy students, popping in a P90X DVD in between classes to work out is a great way to follow the program. In addition, the nutritional guide instructs students on what foods they should eat to make the program effective for them. The nutritional guide offers easy recipes for students on the go, and is even divided into 3 easy to follow phases. Phase 1 of the nutritional plan is the “Fat Shredder,” phase 2 is the “Energy Booster,” and phase 3 is the “Endurance Maximizer.” A great aspect of this program is that it maintains high energy levels while burning fat. All too often, workout programs can cause people to lose energy and motivation.

Keeping high energy levels is especially important for college students, who often hold many responsibilities and time commitments. With P90X, students can be rest assured they will be energetic and lose weight throughout the program.

P90X Disadvantages for College Students

P90X Advantages & Disadvantages

Luckily, the disadvantages of the P90X program are outweighed by its advantages. This program does require discipline, and is not a traditional “easy fix” type of dieting program. Instead, the P90X program actually teaches you how to manage a healthy lifestyle and maintain it for your whole life. In addition, the workouts can often be highly intense and interactive. People lose weight and get in shape by sweating, not by sitting on the couch all day! The P90X program definitely emphasizes the idea of hard work yielding very rewarding results.

In addition, the P90X program requires meal planning in advance. This is actually a good habit to develop, however, and the nutritional guide helps you every step of the way. So, while planning meals may sound like a hassle, it actually can become an enjoyable part of your life that helps you control what you eat. People can often become controlled by their impulsive desires to binge on certain foods, but the P90X program restricts unhealthy impulses that can be the downfall of your workout plan.

In Conclusion

Overall, P90X would be a great program for any college student seriously seeking to get in shape. The P90X program is life changing, and will serve you throughout your life if you successfully complete it. It is a worthwhile investment, and the time commitment can be very flexible depending on your schedule. I highly recommend the P90X program for college students in particular.

Opening a cell phone account is a great way to begin establishing credit. Knowing the right places to go and the right accounts to open will help you avoid being rejected. Though any of the larger cell phone service carriers require a credit check, many companies offer a variety of cell phone options with no credit history.

Free Cell Phones

Many free cell phones with no credit checks are available through a variety of carriers. You need to shop around and do your homework. The best place to start is online. Cellular companies are becoming more and more competitive and free cell phone offers are easy to find. Online shopping enables you to sift through a variety of carriers and plans. Most companies offer a certain model for free if you use their services.

The only down side to a free cell phone is that you normally don’t have many options when choosing a phone. You may not have a ton of features either. But, having the phone service will help you establish credit and have access to a phone where ever you are.

Pre-Paid Cell Phone Plans

A Pre-paid or pay-as-you-go cell phone plan is a great option for someone with no credit or bad credit. Pre-paid phones offer a basic services, no frills cellular service. Though you don’t get all the upgrades and apps, many phones offer texting and picture ability. A great perk is no obligation to a two-year contract as will most plans. You also don’t rack up overage charges.

Essentially, you pay for a certain amount of minutes each month. Once you go over those minutes, your phone service disconnects until you buy more minutes. You can purchase more minutes immediately or in a certain time limit.

Many companies offer pre-paid phones. You can find them at the major phone carriers, electronic stores, and even online.

Co-Signer

Many people with no credit often have a co-signer for loans. This means that someone with a good credit history also signs your credit application vouching for your loan. Thus, this person accepts the responsibility for your credit line along with you.

The last thing you want to do is neglect to pay your cell phone services because it will affect your co-signers credit history. A well-established trusting relationship is involved with a co-signed loan.

Deposit

Many cell phone carriers are willing to open accounts for those with no credit for a deposit. This means you put down a certain amount of money to open the account. Upon closing the account, you are given your deposit back. However, if you fail to pay your monthly bill, the account will be closed and your deposit will not be returned. They cell phone company uses the deposit to pay-off your unpaid bill.

Be very wise when making the choice to put down a deposit. Some cell phone companies can charge up to $1,000 for a deposit. Shop around and find the best deal before you decide to put down a large sum of money. Also, think about the phone model you select. A phone that is less expensive and offers less features will require a smaller deposit.

Other Options

If you are still undecided on how to get a cell phone with no credit, consider establishing a history on your credit report. If you pay rent, have your leasing agent report your on-time payments to the credit bureau. You can also add utility bills, electric bills, and land line phone bills to your credit report. Make sure their are no flaws in your payment history. After all, you are trying to build a positive credit history.

You can also shop around online. If you have been turned down by major carriers or find their offers are unreasonable, turn to online stores. Many online stores offer great deals for those with no credit or bad credit. A quick internet search will pull up hundreds of options.

Considerations

Having cell phone service will greatly benefit your personal life and your credit. Opening a cell phone account and paying your monthly bill on time shows lenders that you are a responsible consumer. The longer you have your service, the greater chance you have of opening other credit lines in the future. Think of each credit account as a building block to establish a good credit standing.

Remember to always pay your cell phone bill on time and never go over your minutes. The more control you have over your cell phone account, the greater your credit history is. By budgeting wisely and using your cell phone minutes correctly, you are well on your way to becoming a borrower creditors want to lend money to. Having a cell phone account can also help you rent an apartment, and establish other bills without large deposits such as utilities and electric.

For those who work from home, and even for those who do not, having access to high speed internet is a matter of necessity, not luxury.

States from Nevada, to Nebraska, to Pennsylvania still have no access to high speed internet via cable or other means. People in these areas have typically been constrained to rely on the slower dial-up services in order to have internet access at all.

With technology moving forward at the rate it is currently expanding, the necessity for high speed access is becoming more pronounced all the time. With games, movies, and other things able to be downloaded now, those who do not have a higher level of transfer are left essentially out of the loop.

Currently the United States is somewhat behind other countries in how completely they cover the country with higher speeds of internet service. While most cities and smaller towns are well covered, the US, having more than 40 percent of it’s population living in rural or remote areas, does not provide for those citizens with things like fiber optics, cable and DSL options.

Factually this would be financially impossible for many companies. The lack of coverage is due to the wide areas of land that are uninhabited. These areas must be crossed to offer high speed services to those who live on the other side. Many people live perhaps several miles away from the closest neighbor, or situated high on a mountain top, or in a remote part of the desert. It is not feasible to offer cable or DSL in some of these areas, yet the need for higher speed internet still exists.

High speed internet offers essential high speed movement of data that brings us learning, commerce, and interaction. What viable options exist for the rural resident to gain access to higher speeds of data transfer than dialup internet provides for?

Economic Stimulus

There is some hope for new services to be installed in the more remote or rural areas due to the economic stimulus package that was signed in 2009 by President Obama. That bill sets aside more than 7 billion dollars to assist in expansion of broadband services to rural areas nationally. The way in which these funds will be spent is not year clear.

Current Choices for High Speed Internet:

In most areas which are remote or highly rural, your selections for high speed internet are limited currently to two choices.

You may be able to jump a signal to a nearby tower for a wireless internet service, particularly when in sections of the country that have a more open sky, such as the deserts of Nevada or Arizona, as well as the prairie states such as Nebraska.

In smaller areas of wooded areas such as Pennsylvania and Ohio, your selection will likely be to use Satellite Internet.

Satellite Internet

Satellite internet is currently available in most areas of the fifty states. There are relatively few choices for satellite internet providers in the United States, however most of these cover nearly any area where it is possible to get a satellite signal.

It is also possible to get internet coverage via satellite in heavily wooded areas by situating the satellite to get a clear skyline, or by removal of some obstacles such as trees that may block a path.

Your choices for Satellite Internet in the United States include companies such as

Skycasters

ESS(Enterprise Satellite Solutions

HughesNet Satellite Internet

Wildblue Satellite Internet

Skyway USA Satellite Internet

VSAT(offers through resellers)

The Up side of Satellite

Satellite internet offers fast internet services to areas that may be very remote. You will find that you are able to download or upload as rapidly as many cable systems from your home many miles away from the mainstream cities and towns. Businesses as well as residential high speed is offered by most of these companies.

The Down Side:

The user of satellite internet will offer a few problems that you may have to deal with. There are some latency problems, as well as issues that crop up halting your service during inclement weather.

Satellite internet service is more costly to install and may cost more on a monthly basis if your equipment is rented, and will be very costly to install when you are required to purchase your own.

Wireless Internet

The second option for the rural user to achieve a high speed data transfer is the wireless internet setup. This differs from satellite in several ways. An antenna is installed on the top of a home or business which points at a main antenna or tower owned by the internet company or who rents the air from another company tower.

This is a viable solution in many rural areas provided that a clean line of sight can be received from the tower to the antenna. It is not a viable solution for heavily wooded areas in most cases, but for open areas such as desert or prairie states the antenna may pick up a signal from a tower situated a fairly long distance away.

The Up Side:

Less expensive to install, normally costing about 100-200 dollars, the WiFi setup depends on microwave towers being relatively close to you. Adaptors and other signal boosters can help you to get a good signal from an unimpeded path that may be more than twenty miles away. In a desert scenario we’ve personally jumped a signal more than ten miles with an good to excellent signal return.

The Down Side:

Multiple factors affect the transmission of the signal. These may include weather, impediments such as buildings, hills, trees and other landscape issues. Your access may be slowed by the number of users connected to the end access area.

While we currently do not have a wide array of options available for high speed in the rural area, there are some workable solutions that can be used. Granted, some will require adjustments and costly installations in some cases, but the ability to transfer data are higher speeds is usually worth the additional cost if you depend on the internet for your business or livelihood.
